A peak at my Anatomy...

Here are the fronts of my first 10  cards. They are not in order from 1-10 but instead, remember how I said I was carrying my list of words with me? As I came across or found pics that worked I just crossed those words off the list.

 

I realize this is not a great pic but it will give you an idea of how I am approaching the project.  Nadia is probably doing this in a completely different way!

I had a brainstorm today as I tried to figure out how to do my journalling on the back.

BUSINESS CARDS!! I had some sheets of blanks, and simply just typed out a sentence or two. It was quick, easy and totally painless!

 

Easily the worst pic of the bunch but I wanted to give you an inkling of where I am going with this. In the end it should look like a mosaic of pics and words. An interesting wall hanging for my kitchen to replace the "Sunflower" 20 year old Zellers framed print...ugh...

 

Rainy day here in Edmonton. A great day to put on sweats and just hang out in the studio. Though I think the kidlets  are making popcorn..MOVIE TIME!

OOOHHHH how fun! My dream birthday would include a few of my closest girlfriends, no offence to my DH and kids, at a full service resort with endless spa treatments, food (chocolate), drink and creating! We would have access to all of the latest crafting toys/tools, which I can't afford myself, to create masterpiece after masterpiece! Now...if it could really come true! (;

BUSY!

I feel like there should be an excuse posted..like TypePad wouldn't accept the 8 posts I had tried to get onto the studio blog...but there are no excuses other than SUMMER!

August finally had us seeing some super hot weather. On one of those days we went to Pigeon Lake...

.

Most of the other hot  days had us eating and drinking in the cool of the back yard or shopping in mall AC.

What I did NOT do...was art.....

The August project..Anatomy of a Month is turning out very cool. I will admit it has been slow going but I am truly loving this one.

Nadia posted the first 10 words. I am going to post them all .

Here are some things I have learned doing this project.

a) Don't feel you have to capture an image on the day the word appears...for example I wrote out all the words and  have been looking for them as the month goes by.

b) not every word needs a picture..it can be a quote, a ticket stub even a bottle cap ( Jones' soda is cool for their quotes..) Just be inspired by the word!

d) Don't forget that the images can come from anywhere. A magazine, the web, your own doodles and art.

e) Finally...let it go...take chances. Go for a walk with your camera and your words. You will be amazed at what your eye identifies as art!

BW08 comes to an end!

All n all we had about 18 people take part over 3 days of activities. There was much laughter, a lot  of picture taking and even some fun prizes for those who took part.

Everyone who came to an BW event  received a "Limited edition..ahem"  Birthday Week 08 Journal.

Yes more of us. (grin)..put us  in your pocket so every time you need to make a note... you see our faces...

and that's not all...for handy reference...

a heads up for BW09 on the inside back cover! LOL!

The participants who came to the Treasured Memories BW class not only made this book...

but also got some fabulous door prizes put together by Jill and Chantel as well as some one...cough..Carla..cough..won the draw for ..

And last but not least...Those who came to Mamma Mia...... we certainly did NOT forget them, they got  movie treat bags!

Nadia and I had an amazing week pretending we were 12 years old again. Thank you everyone for all the Birthday wishes and hugs.

anatomy of a month...

our challenge for the month of august is to keep it simple!  HA!  everyday we will have a word and with that word we are creating ATC's (artist trading cards).  simple, right?  you would think so....

   step one

gesso some canvas

  splash some paint on it!  eeeeassssy!

  come up with a pattern...

sew, stamp, color, play and voila!

a pretty funky way of housing your ATC cards for the month!

here are the words for the first ten days:

atc's are 2 1/2" x 3 1/2".  write the word, add a photo, draw a picture, add a quote.  anything goes!  simple?  we hope you will join in and play with us this month.  laurie will be posting a surprise in the next couple of days!

doc-u-ment 31 comes to an end...

it all started with a simple idea.  31 days, 31 photos, 31 words, quotes and/or stories about the photo and the day.  not to purchase items for this project, but to use what you have.  I wanted to share with you my thoughts on what this experience has been for me.

first of all I loved the part of taking pictures on a daily basis.  I learned through this that I need to be more organized with uploading photos and emptying my card.  I made some errors in taking photos, uploading them and trying to print them, but all in all loved looking for just the right shot for the day.

I am so happy with the end result which is basically a daily photo journal of july.  I loved the challenge of here is your photo for the day and now document it.  NOW!  not next month, not in a year, not in ten years, RIGHT NOW!  it so helps me to remember exactly what was going on and why I took the picture.  

I confess that I do not call myself a scrapbooker.  I guess I have this vision of a scrapbooker being someone who has piles of photos all organized, albums ready to go, coordinating papers and embellishments and all in some neat make sense kind of way.

I know that what I did for this project was take a scrapbooking kit filled with papers, embellishments and stickers etc.  I threw it in a drawer and used only those papers.  I used stamps, rub-ons, recycled papers, eyelets, brads, charms all from what I had laying around.  the end result is a bulging, beautiful album which I guess makes me a scrapbooker?  

whatever term we use to describe what we do I think it is important to remember what our inspiration is with each project.   every artist starts with an idea, a sketch, an emotion and spills it out be it on the canvas, on fabric, paper etc.  

with doc-u-ment 31 it was a challenge to keep up and do everyday.  some days were simple and some days were downright difficult!  we loved it so much that we decided to do another challenge for our birthday month - AUGUST!

we will give more details on that shortly, but we will let you know that we have a fantastic prize for one lucky person.  stay tuned!
