Get Crack a Lackin~!

Busy weekend. Anam's fundraiser was a great success. So glad I could take part and show her some love. Even better. I stayed awake for over 12 hours of intense mini book making. Will post pic's later when I am unpacked and cleaned up! Being social and creative at the same time is something I've been missing since Lost and Found Studio has been in hiatus. Our studio days were always days I could trust to get shit done even if it was in small increments. Since January and life hitting the fan, those increments have seemed to get impossibly smaller.

Is summer hard for everyone as a time to be creative? It becomes nearly impossible for me. I had a discussion with fire boy #2's dad the other day and he likened it to being held hostage by your kid's. They are too young to drive or time manage their own lives, don't work real jobs so we are constantly budgeting so they can do the things they want to, not to mention..doing their laundry, making their meals etc etc..Now throw in an extra sibling and a husband that is out of town...yes  Morgan it IS a can of soup for supper again. I'm tired!

So a day where I can do something away from home but be really close to home in case of fire or flood...wow..what a gift!

This week is a full week. Last real week before school starts. We've got registration for grade 11, doctors appt's x3, work, Dwayne, 2 parties and somewhere in there...I need to hit the pool as I have been lax. Oh and don't forget the massive clean up of the studio as getting ready for the fundraiser raised more than money...it raised a monumental disaster area....

Counting Firemen not Sheep

It was a long night last night. Sleepless really as I kept waking up thinking I was seeing the warm glow of our room on fire or was it the crackling sounds as the next door neighbours house burned to the ground. All courtesy of my over active imagination after the explosive activities of the evening. Where oh where could a far flung ember hide? ....sleepless I say..

So today I am bagged. Currently sitting here trying to shut down and get ready for Anam's fundraiser extraordinare tomorrow. FYI there are still seats available if you a last minute kind a girl...

Today was spent doing heavy supervision of the 2 deviant boys while sitting at my kitchen table editing photo's. I gave Photoshop a work out for a solid 6 hours. Lets just say I have more than enough to do for 12 hours...if I last that long...

Early bed tonight. Hope to see some friendly perky faces tomorrow!

Food Avoidance

I can't be the only one who does this. It does work though for me to find myself those little projects that keep my mind off the quart of Double Dark Marble Slab ice cream  in the deep freeze calling my name. This past week+ has been a lesson in will power and plain old perseverance. To think that I could still be sucking my meals through a straw and living to tell the tale...wow...Even better..can we give a high five to a whopping 8lbs gone and no cravings? ( just a mild headache..) Just call me She-Ra Warrior princess. In fact I think if Beyonce can have a secret alter ego for her stage life..I can certainly have a dieting one..

Filling my time in-between meals....That unfinished Cathy Zielske class! (remember.. this is Simple Scrapbooking style and is very linear!)

First we have the mini book within the album called Take 5! These are 6X6 pages that focus on 5 statements about the subject.

 

 

Then an 8.5x11 page using some color theory.

 

And finally a 12x12 lesson in white space. This one I am very proud of. Mostly because I ended up liking all that white, also because I used my limited Photoshop skills for the journalling!

    

The other thing that had...key word here...HAD me spending literally about 8 hours on...organizing photo's into new folders and  subcategories  etc etc...One of the new things I am trying is to have folders to sort photo's into not only for the event or day but for self portraits as well as sub folders for each person. This way I can easily go to say Morgan's folder and see 10 or 20 pics of JUST the pics of Morgan I like or photo's that would look good with cropping everything out ..but the boy... Some of the layouts I like the best are where there is no real subject matter but a person , using 3-15 photo's all taken at different times in their lives, but all of that one individual. Get my drift? 

 

It'll take some time to sink in...I'll wait...grin..

News and more news

Still busy as all hell here but we managed to get together and make some samples of some Make and Takes we are doing For Treasured Memories next Saturday the 28th from 10am - 12pm.

For $5 you get to pick one of these to make.

It is a full day of classes for us so will sure to be fun.

Sarah's grade 9 farewell last Friday was a blast.

She was absolutely beautiful and you could have lit the room with her energy.

So much fun watching her dance and even better ...watching her ask THIS boy to dance!

His name is Josh and they are JUST friends! Morgan was on reconnaissance and took this picture. Her main goal for the week was to get her elbow healed enough to slow dance...sigh...and now I have to get her through High School?

The funniest...OMG..was the first dance these two had, and friend with a camera went to take her picture..cause..well it is a rule that a mother should not approach at times like these...Anyway he came back laughing and showed me the pictures he had taken of her and they showed her and Josh dancing away as all HER friends stood around them in a circle taking pictures of them..grin..

More and more often, the older she gets the more  shocked I am to look at her and see my sisters face. She has Coco's nose, smile and eyes I think.

So wish they could have met.

 

 

New Scrapbook Pages

Went scrap booking at TM on Friday. Didn't get a ton accomplished but it did make me feel like I could actually make the effort more often to scrapbook. I didn't even check and see what pics I had, just saw that I had some packed form 7 months ago  the last time I went.  So the pages again are not the layer upon layer pages you see some people doing. Pretty much because I like to get more than 10 pages to fit in an album..oh and I would like them to not cost 20 bucks a layout thank you!

All the power to ya if you do those types of pages. I tend to do those big embellished ones about once every 8 to 10 pages.

Currently my goal with the scrapbooking thing is to just not over think things too much, play with picture sizes and not to be afraid to work right on top of the pic. Sounds simple but not....

Page 2 -Again larger 5x7 with odd sizes around. I got a little squeamish when it came to stamping right over the pic but once it was done I was happy.

Now..I just need an intervention to stop mounting so many pics on co-coordinating paper..
